Christian comedian John Crist returned with a comedy special after years of hiatus following his scandal.

On June 2, popular comedian John Crist released the comedy special “John Crist: What Are We Doing,” which was recorded at the Lyric Theater in Birmingham, Alabama. This was his comeback special after years of hiatus following his scandal. It was also his first special after Netflix canceled his special three years ago.
“From frustrations of ordering at McDonald’s and waiting in line at CVS, to the perplexities of expectant mother’s parking spots and getting baptized in the Nile River, John Crist has been there to observe it all and ask simply… What Are We Doing,” the show’s synopsis says.

Struggles
In 2019, John was on his way to major success with a book and a Netflix special that were about to be released when scandals about his sexual struggle surfaced. Several women spoke about his inappropriate sexual advances toward them.
Some of them also reported him to be giving away free tickets to his shows in exchange for sexual favors. John confessed to many of those allegations. After his confessions, his opportunities for greater success were shut down. He also canceled his tour during that time.
John admitted and confessed that he suffered from a sex addiction. To experience the freedom from the bondage of the enemy, he entered rehab. He described his time in rehab as the darkest time of his life. He even thought about taking his own life during that season.
Breakthroughs
The good news is, that John, later on, found redemption through self-reflection and treatments. He also experienced forgiveness and redemption from God through a family who showed him love and compassion.
John remembered the moment he went into a restaurant wearing a hoodie so no one would recognize him. However, a family recognized him and asked him to join them at the table. He thought that this family would condemn him for his actions, but instead, they showed him love.
“We just want you to know that we love you, and we care about you, and we’ve been thinking about you,” the family told him.
It was that moment that led him into breaking through his struggles and experiencing the great love of God.
“The first time in my life that people knew everything about me, and they still chose to love me.”
