John Bevere and his wife Lisa have been in ministry together for close on 30 years, leading a multi-faceted international outreach and they often speak on GOD TV. Al Gibson interviewed John in Washington DC, where he shared timeless nuggets about his life and ministry. Read the interview, with an update on the latest from this popular Christian leader.
Al: Your ministry is called Messenger International. Why did you choose that name?
John Bevere: Well, it was said of John Baptist – “Behold I send My Messenger before My face and he shall prepare the way before Me”. He was sent before the Lord’s First Coming and the scriptures clearly show that the same anointing is going to be on the Church for His Second Coming – but it is not going to be only one man – it is going to be sons and daughters prophesying, young men seeing visions and old men dreaming dreams! (Acts 2:17-18). So Lisa and I believe our call is to prepare the way of the Lord and that has been the thrust of our ministry ever since its inception in 1990.
Al: Is it quite challenging being a husband and wife team in ministry?

John Bevere: It is actually quite delightful because the ministry is our life and it is all we talk about – how we are reaching people and what God has called us to do. We are very much one and we work together. It has its challenges of course – at times we may have conflicting ideas but we have learnt the art of conflict resolution. Yes, we have had some times of ‘intensive fellowship’ but it is out of our passion, and we are both very much in love with each other, and never attack each other, but rather work out the situation.
Al: So what would you say is the recipe for a successful marriage?
John Bevere: In our case, I think we have a happy marriage because we spend time together. Lisa and I love each other and support each other and we love our kids and g-babies and spend time with them. The real glue of our marriage is the love that God has put in our hearts for each other. And, when I am home, I am really home. I may be on the road ministering an average 15 days a month but the other 15 days I try not to be at the office past school hours.
Al: You and Lisa can often by seen on GOD TV. What are your thoughts about the network?
John Bevere: There is nothing like GOD TV, it’s unique! It’s quite different in the way it is packaged, its vision and thrust, and what it is called to do. You can have three churches in a city, it doesn’t make any of them less valid, but one church has an emphasis that the others don’t and I feel GOD TV is really going to reach 15 to 40-year-olds in an unprecedented way. People who are 40 and over will also love GOD TV, but the ones the network is really going to radically influence are in the 15-40 age group.
Al: Do you have particular message to GOD TV viewers worldwide?
John Bevere: Well, God’s Word applies everywhere and transcends all cultures and I would say to all Christians: GET THE FIRE OF GOD IN YOUR LIFE! Find your passion and run with it. Get the passion to get the Gospel out to the nations, the passion to reach souls and the passion to reach young people. If we reach the youth, we are going to be fresh, if we don’t, we will grow stale because one of the signs of a healthy church is having young people on fire, not just young people attending church, but who will lay down their lives for God.
John Bevere & Messenger International
An anointed preacher who has been used by God to transform lives by stirring up the gifts of the Holy Spirit in Christians worldwide, John believes we often limit God’s ability to bring us to a place of victory due to our incorrect perceptions. He thinks we are capable of achieving so much more than we dared imagine, if we would only take the limits off our awesome Father.
John is the author of many books such as The Bait of Satan and Under Cover and his latest, Killing Kryptonite. In this books, he uncovers practical Biblical truths that will help you apply God’s Word to your life. He also offers hope to all those who feel intimidated or depressed, or feel they are unable to overcome the bondages of the enemy. A blog post that is truly inspirational, especially for men is Why I Just Couldn’t Get Free where John boldly shares how he was able to overcome a struggle with pornography as a young man. “Love will lead you where fear cannot!” he says.
John’s heart is to strengthen the local church and has led to more than ten million translated resources being placed in the hands of pastors and leaders in developing nations. He and Lisa are based in Colorado and have four adult sons, Addison, Austin, Alec, and Arden, a daughter-in-law, Julianna; and their grand children.
Lisa recently wowed audiences at Jesus Culture Encounter 2018 in Manchester which was aired LIVE on GOD TV and John has spoken at various events available on demand including Planetshakers, Word Explosion and the Influencers Conference.
