In 1 Chronicles chapter 21, King David is speaking to a man named Ornan and he’s speaking to him, because God has instructed him to build an altar on his property. And what happens in the story is Ornan learns of David’s request and he wants to give him everything he needs to build this altar. And what’s interesting is David has one of the most profound responses of anyone that could receive something for free. And this is what he says, “But King David replied to Ornan, ‘No, I insist on paying the full price. I will not take for the Lord what is yours or sacrifice a burnt offering that costs me nothing.'”
This is wild! David was exemplifying the importance of learning to give God a sacrifice in life, in worship, and in our pursuit of Him. And I wanna release this word over you today. Consider it a privilege to worship God when you feel absolutely nothing. Consider it a privilege to worship God when you feel absolutely nothing. Part of us growing and maturing in our love for God is actually found in what we do when our emotions don’t line up with our pursuit of God. Emotions are great indicators, but they’re terrible leaders, and you are meant to lead your emotions. And sometimes you are not gonna feel like worshiping Jesus or following Jesus.

I’m married and I want to be a good husband. And if I only loved my wife when I felt like it, I would be a pretty poor husband. But I’m learning to be a husband who loves my wife. And part of me doing that means I love her when I don’t feel it, and I let my emotions follow my action.
And so I just wanna bless you today that if you aren’t feeling like worshiping God, step into it and consider that a privilege, because you’re becoming more like Christ who, for the joy set before Him, endured the cross, which I don’t think felt very good, but He was thinking about you and me on that day. He had a higher value. He was living from virtues and values and not His feelings.
And so I just wanna pray right now. Lord Jesus, would you bless us with grace as we seek you and as we worship you, that we would move beyond our feelings, move beyond our circumstances into becoming like you in your love. And that, Jesus, we would learn to love the Father just like you love the Father. And so I ask for that grace right now in the name of Jesus. Amen.
