An inmate testifies about how he powerfully encountered his Savior, Jesus, inside his death row cell.
Death Row
A death row inmate shared an incredible testimony of God’s redemption. He grew up in a dysfunctional environment where he would see his father and uncle selling drugs. Because of this, he also learned to follow in their footsteps. He recalled, “I’ve seen my father go to prison. My uncles went to prison. And guess what? Little Garcia went to prison.”
In 2014, he found himself in a small death row cell. He was taking 15 pills in the morning and another 15 pills at night. He remembered crying out for help from his homeboys as he used to in the past, but no one helped him. He also tried crying out to his family, but still, nothing happened.

Jesus Encountered Him
Afterward, he learned to ask for help from Jesus, and something happened to him. “It was like 1,000 pounds fell off my back. And for once, I had that peace that surpasses all understanding,” he described. From then on, God would remind him that he was no longer a murderer. Instead, he was a conqueror and ambassador. God also said that he was an overcomer by the blood of the Lamb and the word of his testimony.
Moreover, he mentioned a couple of verses that greatly encouraged him. He stressed Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Then he shared 1 John 4:4, “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.”
He highlighted that his small death row cell used to be dark, ugly, and unhealthy. But later on, it became his temple – a place where he learned to worship and build a relationship with the living God, Jesus Christ.
