When asked, “Why is it so important to show our scars?” Dennis Quaid replied, “That’s what makes us human.”

The actor recalled how he become a man of faith. He was very young then, and it was also the start of a young boy’s dream to become an artist.
“I grew up in the Baptist Church, and I love all the hymns that come from there that I remember from being a kid. And then I’ve written some songs that are very much in the faith category. I guess what really started was ‘On My Way to Heaven,’ which I wrote for my mom when I got out of what I call cocaine school back in 1990. It was to let her know I was okay because I wasn’t okay before then. “Addictions… we use things to fill a hole inside us. That’s what we do,” he said.
When asked if he had any regrets, he answered that he didn’t.
Dealing With Addictions
He said he’s happy to have overcome his addictions. “I’m not in that life anymore. I mean, I stopped because I came home and I was in a band. We got a record deal. And they broke up because of me. Because I was just… I was not reliable. I remember going home and having a kind of white-light experience where I saw myself either dead, in jail, or losing everything I had. And I didn’t want that,” the actor said.

Because of his determination to overcome addiction, he looked for something that would replace the emptiness he felt inside.
That’s when he started reading the Bible again.
Hollywood Actor Dennis Quaid Says Scars “Are What Make Us Humans”
He was asked, “Why is it so important to show our scars?”
This is what he said:
“That’s what makes us human. You know, we’re all humans. We’re not perfect. I think it kind of turns people away from the church and from fellowship with people. And they’re embarrassed to talk about their weaknesses because they’re supposed to be perfect. It’s like, once you get baptized, you’re going to be a perfect person.”
“He came here to tell us, “Just give it all to Me.” In that way, it’s a way of experiencing heaven on earth. Right here. The kingdom of heaven is spread out on earth. And man doesn’t see it because he looks through the lens of his own sin. Having that wiped away gives you that inner feeling that there’s the Holy Spirit right there at work in you. It’s living life now, every day. The joy of being alive,” he concluded.
