A high school principal in South Carolina is working three jobs to help his low-income students in need.
Henry Darbs
The principal of the North Charleston High School, Henry Darbs, will forever be remembered by his students because of his good heart. He is being hailed as a hero for working three jobs to help his students!
Aside from being a principal, he is also working as a county councilman. And during the night, when he should be sleeping, he is working a night job at a Walmart to help his low-income students.
His compassion and urge to help them started when he saw how his students were living when he get to visit their homes during the weekend. Over 90% of the students in his school are living below the poverty line.
“I get a little bit emotional because, um, when you’ve got children you’ve heard sleep under a bridge, or a former student or child is sleeping in a car,” Henry explained, “Or when you go to a parent’s house because there are problems and you knock on the door and you see there are no curtains and you see a mattress on the floor…and these people need…and I wasn’t going to say no.”
High School Principal
He works from 10 pm to 7 am stocking shelves to make extra income. He gives every penny he makes at the Walmart to his students. Aside from wanting to help them, he also wanted to inspire them and teach them that no job is lesser than the others.
“If some of them could see that if a principal could work at Walmart, why can’t they?” he said.
Henry is also inspiring everyone to help the people around them.
“I wish that those of us who are born of poverty and we had to struggle and we made it to at least the lower middle class, we will look back to help others.”
