The Good Shepherd gave His life for the sheep to be saved, protected, comforted, directed in the right path. So the sheep will not be consumed nor lost but have eternal life.
Who Is The Good Shepherd?
“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is a hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth because he is a hireling and careth not for the sheep.” (John 10:11-13)
Jesus is not just a Shepherd to us the sheep, but a good Shepherd. He cares enough to give His life for us to be saved. Our trust and hope should not be in any hireling shepherd nor in any man. For they cannot protect, nor save themselves, nor talk of saving others.
It is a strong desire of Jesus, our Good Shepherd, that we all should trust Him with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding. But we must always acknowledge Him in all our ways and He shall direct our paths (See Proverbs 3:5-6). Jesus is ever willing and ready to guide us in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake because He Himself is holy (See Psalm 23:3, Hebrew 12:14).
Jesus Called Those That Believe In Him, His Sheep
“But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:26-27) Those that do not believe in Jesus are not His sheep and as such cannot hear His voice and neither have they received eternal life.
The sheep can do nothing by his/her own strength except by the strength of the Good Shepherd which is our Lord Jesus Christ. This was why Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (See Philippians 4:13).
Psalm 23:1 says, “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want”. This verse is talking about Jesus the Good Shepherd of the sheep meeting their daily needs. This is a reminder to us that He cares for us, His sheep. Jesus expressed how greatly we are valued, He said, “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” (See Matthew 6:26-30).
You shouldn’t give up no matter what you are going through. First trust Him, then wait on Him. Because faithful is He that promises and those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength (See Hebrews 10:23, Isaiah 40:31). Whatever you are waiting on Jesus for, He has all the power to shift you from waiting on it to walking in it. You only need to believe and trust Him.
