Today’s Verse:
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.” Psalm 51:10-12
Today’s Message:
The famous verses are written during one of King David’s darkest times. If we don’t know the story behind the Psalm, we may read the passage with the tone of a sincere heart.
But, David wrote this in his anguish. Prophet Nathan confronted him with his sin of adultery with Bathsheba and murder for the Hittite, Uriah.
Instead of moping around, he went straight to God with a repentant heart and broken spirit. He knew that he deserved to be judged because he was before the Holy God. But, he also knew that the God he served was a God who loves to forgive and restore.
And so, David stood in God’s loving nature and came to Him with an honest heart. And by this, God is pleased. Because He does not despise, reject, or shame us when we go to Him in honest repentance. He forgives. Shalom!
