The better we look on the outside, the easier it is for us to think that we have somehow deserved the love of God. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” It’s not about us being more righteous on our own. It’s about us taking on the righteousness of God through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.
It’s easy for us to think that we deserve God’s love when we make everything right. We are so used to human love that we try to earn God’s love too, through good works. We should do good works to honor Him because we love Him not because we want God to love us. Because the truth is, God already loves you.
So can we earn God’s love?

There is not a day in our lives where you and I have deserved for God to love us. He loves us because He chose to love us. Not out of obligation, not out of need, He loves us because it’s who He is. God is love.
We cannot fully understand that because we’re so used to human love. Humans will always fall short, but God’s love does not fall short. It went all the way. His Son Jesus went all the way even to death for us.
