Are you struggling to believe God will show up in your circumstances? Growing up, I always thought of God as a man in the sky. A man in the sky who would set fires upon the earth if He was angry with sinners. He demanded waters to rise when his heart was upset with them. I don’t quite remember where this ideology came from, but it was something I truly believed as a child. As I got older it occurred to me that this wasn’t God’s nature at all. God and His nature became more and more apparent to me with life’s obstacles. I couldn’t do this day to day “routine” without him anymore. I gave my life to him when I was 16 and never looked back.
Plans to Prosper
From the moment I got saved, the idea that God had good plans for my life is what lit my soul on fire. Like it says in Jeremiah 29:11, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” I would weep at the altar knowing He would meet me right where I was and affirm me of where I was going to be. Though I knew this truth, feelings of fear and doubt would try to creep in and distract my focus from what I had previously partnered with. I want to encourage someone today who might be walking through something similar. God has a plan for your life and all His promises are yes and amen.
I know life can feel very raw sometimes and that’s okay. It’s real. If you’re feeling impatient and don’t know if you can continue to put your faith in God and His promises for your life, I encourage you to press in. When I was 15 years old, I was diagnosed with a rare type of Bone Cancer called Osteosarcoma. That particular season of my life was very raw and put a lot of things in perspective for me. My faith. My Hope. But, one thing remained the same. I knew God was real.

Choose Truth
So, I chose the truth. I chose to believe that it wouldn’t always be hard. That regardless of how real my situation was, God was more real. That God has a plan for my life and I’m going to live to see it. I leaned on the scriptures. The best thing you can do for yourself in a season of unawareness is to fill it with truth. Truth like in, Romans 8:28, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” As well as 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
In conclusion, I used to believe that God was a God who would set fires on earth out of anger. But, now I believe He’s a God who sets fire in your soul and never puts it out.
