Recently, the author of “Crazy Love,” Pastor Francis Chan, discusses the power of a quiet life. He shares valuable lessons about remaining faithful even in the small things.
Pastor Francis Chan
Since the 1990s, Francis Chan has garnered significant recognition as a Christian leader. He is most renowned for founding the Cornerstone Community Church based in Simi Valley, California. In 2004, he also established Eternity Bible College and is a co-author of several publications, including the New York Times bestseller “Crazy Love.”
In a recent sermon, he talks about the importance of living a quiet life, based on 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12.
“And to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we instructed you, so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need” (NASB)
Francis Chan said that the passion he sees from the younger generation “fired him up,” and he also wanted to remind them to be faithful in small things.
Francis Chan: “God, could we have another generation rise up that has nothing to hide?”
“And it’s out of my love for you that I’m saying you have to be faithful in the little before you can be a voice to the world. We have a lot of people clamoring to be voices, we need fewer voices and more examples,” he said.
Furthermore, the pastor talked about performing righteous deeds in secret for God to see.

In today’s culture, it is evident that more and more people are inclined towards posting and showcasing their possessions.
“This passage [Matthew 6] is saying that when we do things in secret, there’s going to be a reward. And maybe He’s not doing that many miracles in your life because He knows your motive is. ‘I want to post it. I want to do it.’ He says ‘when you pray, go into your room, shut the door, and pray to your father who is in secret. And your father who sees in secret will reward you,” he said.
Jesus’ Example
He used Jesus as an example. During His time, Jesus would frequently withdraw from the crowd to pray in secret. People would search for Him, and upon finding Him, they would discover Him in prayer. Pastor Francis Chan then urged everyone to emulate Christ.
“What if by you living a quiet life, and you doing things in secret, meant that God would show you miracles, more miracles than you’ve ever seen? But they were just for you. And what if I am quiet and seeking God, He starts thundering messages just for you and He says, ‘I’ve never told anyone this and I’m not telling anyone this this is just for you,’” he said.
