Foster kids didn’t ask for luxurious things or toys this Christmas. Instead, they asked on basic necessities like food and hygiene products.
Helping Foster Kids
The nonprofit organization “Things of My Very Own” recently reached out to foster children to help them this Christmas. They made the children write their wishes on a tag. After collecting the tags, they would give each one their desires as a Christmas gift. The founder of the “Things of My Very Own” wanted to let the foster kids feel valued and loved this holiday season.

“I don’t want these children lying in bed at night wondering if they’re worth it,” she said. “I want them to know that they are, I want them to know someone in the world cares about them.”

Surprisingly, these children didn’t ask for something luxurious or fun like toys or video games. Instead, they asked about basic necessities. Some heart-wrenchingly asked for “a dad,” “new clothes,” and even as simple as “a comb.” Moreover, “a teen boy asked for feminine hygiene products for his younger sister, so she wouldn’t have to keep missing school.”

Rayn explained the significance of blessing the foster children.
“If we can show them for one moment that someone put their needs ahead of their own,” she said. “Maybe they will finally believe that what they have endured does not need to define who they grow up to be.”

Going the extra mile to help foster kids is something Rayn loved to do. It became her mission and purpose in life as she was also once a foster child. She knew by heart the struggle of being a kid in fostercare.
The Founder’s Life Story
Rayn joined the foster care system at 14 years old. She then met another girl her age who was wearing tight clothes. The clothes were for a nine-year-old.
“I remember seeing her change for bed and noticed reddish-purplish welts on her skin,” she recounted. “Her clothing had literally injured her. I made a silent promise to her that day. That when I grew up, I would do something to help children like her and me.”
God didn’t waste Rayn’s childhood struggles as they birthed a beautiful and purposeful life. Today, she gives her life to foster kids, treating them with love, support, and encouragement. “For many of these children, we are the spark of hope that lights up their otherwise dark world,” she remarked. “Many individuals and businesses have already stepped up, asking for tags; and for these children, we hope it is only the beginning.”
