Christian author and podcast host Emily Freeman shared her wisdom on “how to know when to stay or walk away,” which might aid some people in their decision-making.

As someone who would often listen to her “The Next Right Thing” podcast, which she started in 2017, she discovered something. One of the most challenging decisions for a person to make is “whether or not it’s time to stay” in a job, vocation, relationships, and so on. Furthermore, Emily remarked that people find it especially difficult when these decisions are deeply tied to their identity.
“Those are the ones that feel the most heavy because the stakes feel the highest,” the author said.
Hence, she wrote a book titled “How To Walk Into A Room” where she delved deeper into the topic. In the book, Emily highlighted “the process of discernment” about knowing God’s purpose and will in a person’s life.
Facing Decision Fatigue
Furthermore, the author explained why some Christians struggle with discernment in their decisions even with the presence of the Holy Spirit. There seems to be decision fatigue among Christians, especially when faced with choosing between what is good and right.
In her response, Emily shared her personal experience of growing up in church. She was taught the narrative “that there was one right thing to do.” And if she wasn’t able to make that one right decision, she felt she would mess everything up. But she refuted the idea and said, “What I found is that when God gave me a new heart, and in my conversation and relationship with God, that God trusts us.”
“God trusts me as I trust God. And I can know that I can move forward, paying attention to what makes me come alive,” Emily remarked.
