Ms. Universe 2017, Demi-Leigh Tebow shares a powerful message to women about beauty standards. She said, “As a Christian, I need to have confidence in who God says I am. Not self-confidence, but God-confidence.”
Demi-Leigh Tebow On Beauty Standards
An uplifting message on the concept of genuine beauty was offered by Demi-Leigh in her recent Facebook post. In her opening statement, she discussed how she overcame her feelings of fear. It was when people began to categorize her and doubted that she would be able to win the title of Miss Universe in 2017.

Furthermore, to prevent her from winning the pageant, people began defining her in particular ways. And then she explained that teenage females in today’s society do the same thing, defining themselves according to the parameters that are set by social media, including how they should look and behave.
Redefining Beauty Standards
“I was one of the shortest girls to go in and compete for this title. And now if you think of models, beauty queens, they’re usually tall,” she said. “As a Christian, I have to go back and define self-love, self-worth, and self-image to myself. And the definition that I got was, as a Christian, I need to have confidence in who God says I am. Not self-confidence, but God-confidence. And you know, Psalm 138 says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, knit together in our mother’s womb.”
It is God who, according to Demi, is the source of the true definition of beauty.
God-Confidence
Demi then added that true beauty shines from the inside out. Being Miss Universe 2017 was a huge part of her life and such a tremendous honor for her, but she said it does not define her beauty. Additionally, the confidence that she gained from her Creator is what defines her true beauty.
“Over the years, I’ve realized that no amount of makeup, clothes, or words of affirmation will ever make me feel worthy. But replacing self-confidence with God-confidence will always make me feel worthy because He defines my ultimate beauty,” she concluded.
