Pastor David Platt of McLean Bible Church in Washington, D.C. warned Christians in his message, highlighting that “thinking you’re a Christian doesn’t make you a Christian.”
Christian?
Many people claim to be Christians in their religious affiliation. For some reason, it has become a generic term to some people. But what does being a Christian really mean? Some understand it well, hence, they walk and live by it. However, some just know about it and barely live out the Christian faith.
Pastor David Platt urged in his message for Christians to have genuine faith. He warned people about claiming to be a Christian but not living out the faith. He referred to what Jesus taught in Matthew 7:21 where He said: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
“Many people who think they’re Christians will be shocked to stand before God one day and hear Him say the words, ‘I never knew you. Away from Me, you evildoers,’” he said. “That’s language straight from the mouth of Jesus.”
Know Jesus
Further, the pastor explained, “He [Jesus] uses the word many people will say on that day ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your Name, do all these different things.’ And He’ll say ‘I never knew you.’”
Pastor David said, “It’s possible for many people to claim the Name of Jesus but actually not know Jesus.”
BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY: STANDING FIRM IN YOUR FAITH
With that, he urged believers to carefully examine themselves and check their hearts to see if they are truly in the faith. To do this, one must make the Bible their standard.
“What is real faith, according to the Bible, so that we might not just be ready for that day,” he said. “When we stand before God in heaven, but not miss the beauty of true faith in Jesus in our lives right now.”
In the end, Pastor David encouraged believers to take a humble position before God.
“Let’s humbly and honestly examine if our faith is genuine according to God’s Word so that we don’t miss out on life now and forever,” he remarked.
