The head football coach at Clemson University, Dabo Swinney, says his optimism is rooted in his faith. He has “zero doubts” about the return of the college football this fall.
In an interview with ESPN’s segment “First Take”, the coach of the 2-time national champion, said that “God is bigger than this.” He was referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He added, “He’s [God] gonna be glorified and shine through this in a mighty way. He has the ability to stomp this thing out as quickly as it rose up. If it doesn’t work out that way, you adjust. But my plan is to get back at it and hope for the best.”
Swinney reasoned that his optimism comes from his 50 years of life and his faith in Jesus.
“Over 2,000 years ago this weekend, the world was in a crisis. And I’m sure a lot of smart people didn’t think that Jesus could come back to life. But He did. And this Sunday, we’re gonna celebrate that,” he told the ESPN hosts.

We can remember Swinney being vocal about his faith back in 2008 at a press conference. He answered journalists when they asked him about God. His answer left the reporters reflecting.
“I grew up in a family where I was taught there was a God, but I didn’t really have a relationship with Christ until I was 16. That was a game-changer for me, it has really become a foundation in my life.”
“It’s hard to survive and thrive in this world if you don’t have a spiritual foundation and something that will give you peace ‘cause life is hard. And we’re all gonna experience death, failure, setbacks, disappointment, cancer — it’s a really difficult world. For me, my relationship with Christ has given me hope and peace,” he explained.
