Pastor Craig Groeschel explained the difference between a Christian parent and a Christ-centered family.
Parenting On Purpose
Parenting is challenging. Especially in every stage of a child’s life, the parent has to adjust to their child’s needs. But one thing is for sure, parents need Jesus to help guide them.
In an Instagram reel shared by Pastor Craig Groeschel, he shared a short clip about the difference “between a Christian parent and a Christ-centered family.” He preached about it in one of his “Parenting on Purpose” series. In his message, the pastor urged parents to be Christ-centered.
“Instead of being just a Christian parent, I want us to think of ourselves as Christ-centered families,” he said. “Christ-centered in our parenting.”
Christian Parent VS. Christ-Centered Parent
He explained his that being a Christ-centered parent more than just being a Christian parent. The pastor pointed out how some Christian families settle on the appearance of Christianity. Seemingly, the family has become more like a religion than a relationship with God because they are more focused on good works.
Meanwhile, having Christ as the center, parents would genuinely allow Christ to reign and guide them in their parenting. They acknowledge that Jesus is Lord and King over their family in every way.
“There’s a lot of people that I would call casual Christians or kind of cultural Christians,” Craig explained. “You know, if things get bad, we might say a prayer over Thanksgiving. We’ll go to church on Christmas and Easter. And maybe, if there’s a Family Fall Fest, free candy, we might be there then. And so we’re kind of a Christian family.”
“There’s a difference though if you’re Christ-centered,” he added. “When you’re Christ-centered, loving God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength, this is your highest calling.”
It’s great to be a Christian parent. But it glorifies God when parents become Christ-centered.
