A Christian dad has some advice for his fellow parents, but it is what the Lord has taught him, too. He shared, “Be there for your kids, but don’t rescue them.”

Parents always want the best for their children. Their desire to help is an immediate response to their love and compassion. But human parents are limited. That’s why we should always turn to God, our Perfect Father, for parenting wisdom.
And God has shared one piece of advice with Seth Dahl. That piece of advice is to allow kids to face trials without solving their problems for them.
Seth illustrated the point with a story about his daughter. Apparently, his daughter had lost a diamond earring that her grandma gave her.
She was crying as she told Seth and his wife about what had happened. She was also upset that her dog had destroyed her aerobatic equipment.
As a parent, Seth wanted to help his daughter. Thoughts came into his head about rescuing her by buying and replacing the destroyed things. But then, he heard the Lord told him, “Don’t you dare do that.”
Be There For Your Kids But Don’t Rescue Them
So, Seth obeyed God. He resisted his urge to help his daughter fix the problem, but he was there for her. He comforted her and hugged her.
Then, all of a sudden, his daughter gets up with a solution for her aerobatic equipment. Seth recalled, “She’s solving her problem on her own. And I was going, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m so glad I didn’t avoid the difficult emotions. I was there with her, I was present as a support, but I wasn’t gonna fix it and solve it and try to throw money at it.”
He added, “I’m so glad I listened to the Lord.”
In the end, she also found her earring!
Seth concluded, “As parents, we should let our children face any trials they encounter without solving their problems for them. If we don’t, we take away their chance to learn, grow, and overcome those trials on their own.”
