Brian Guerin talked about the story of Martha and Mary to emphasize that no anxiety is big enough to supersede God.

The Senior Leader of Ascend Church, Brian Guerin, gave a powerful message in one of his sermons entitled, “Mary’s at His Feet.” He mentioned the story of Martha and Mary in Luke 10:41-42, “‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’” He then explained to his congregation that falling in love with Jesus was about staying in that place of “Mary at his feet.”
When people would start to get busy and feel anxious or worried, then they were like Martha who was upset about many things. He mentioned that it was an indicator that they needed to follow what Mary did. He believed that the “Mary zone” never slipped into those worries. The temptation was still there but people who chose to be at the feet of Jesus never yielded to it because their eyes were so focused on Him.

Mary at Jesus’ Feet
Furthermore, he stressed, “When you’re low, that’s where she [Mary] was. She was on her knees low. He’s high where he needs to be. And He’s in perfect focus. There’s no anxiety big enough that can supersede Him.”
However, if people were like Martha, they would be up high and out of position. Their attentions were no longer fixed on Jesus, who is above over all anxiety, worries, or depression. These negative emotions would become more real than Jesus. Moreover, he emphasized, “It’s always a lie. Anything that’s more real than Him is a lie. And it’ll get you caught off guard.”
