It’s all over commanded the soldier
Bleeding drops of red as Jesus meets his rendezvous with death
And with nothing left he breathes his last breath as darkness covers the earth
But I didn’t pay my final respects
I heard in the grapevine that the vine took six hours to die, normally takes three days at least
But will he rest in peace?
There’s no buffet, pastors speaking or black suits but Roman soldiers’ bloody boots
This is not beautiful and this is no funeral
It was a murder and an execution, a foregone conclusion
Birds and wild animals would be the cremation of the creator of creation
All us disciples are doom and gloom
As we hide in the upper room
I sit in the corner with my head hung low
Thinking I should just go
I denied him three times
Me and Judas should be charged with the same crime
My rejection was just as violent
But now everything is different, everything is silent
Then all of a sudden a knock at the door, we all freeze in fear
The voice of Mary ‘He’s here’, we shout back, who’s here?
“Jesus, He’s alive,” He said, “Tell Peter and the disciples He is alive!”
He said my name even though I denied him three times
That got me but could this be true? We didn’t know what to do
Thomas doubted it straight away but John was out the door
So I ran after him but I couldn’t run no more
And on the tombstone it is engraved, “Not here, the tomb was empty”
Did they steal Him? Come on, haven’t you done enough, haven’t you done plenty?
Then Jesus shows up as I look the Son of God face to face
In disgrace, He said, “Change the world and build my church, now that’s grace”
The heart monitor was now beeping, He is revived
Jesus is truly alive
He took our sin and traded it in
For redemption and forgiveness, nothing missing, nothing broken, but saved, healed, delivered and whole
He saved my soul
Because he’s beaten the king of death, now everything is different
And now new life is in our resurrected king, so for him we shout and we sing
Don’t you see, in Jesus you can be free
It’s not finished it’s only started
