Within the entire spectrum of human activity, there is none so important as the preaching of the good news of Christ in Bible sermons.
It is by the preaching of Bible sermons, using the word of God, that Christ is made known to all. Whether from a pulpit in a church, out in the streets by evangelists hungry to see the glory of God, or in written materials distributed in secret, away from the eyes of persecuting despotic rulers, the word preached through Bible sermons is what causes the heart to awaken to the salvation of God.
When Christ is preached (in Bible sermons), as He who was crucified, buried, raised to life by the Father, and ascended to the right hand of the throne of Majesty, the human soul finds itself confronted with the truth that is plain and obvious to all – It is in the preaching, (otherwise known as the declaring, or the proclaiming) of this Good News, both in authority and with power, which produces that miraculous event in the hearts of all those who believe. And that miracle is known as regeneration by faith. A regeneration into a life of royalty and favor!
Rebirth is a direct result of the preaching of Jesus Christ. Bible sermons establish the history of salvation leading up to the advent and ministry of Jesus Christ. Bible sermons also proclaim the events leading up to His crucifixion, the entire three-day ordeal of Him being in the grave, and it is Bible sermons that we hear the most incredible miracle of all – the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Without Biblically sermons, there would be no trumpet call blast sounding across our dark lands and ushering in the light of the love of God. People who labor in producing and delivering strong Biblically based sermons are to be the most celebrated of all among us. It is this activity, the preaching of Bible sermons, that arouses the sleepy soul to a state of awareness and agitation. It is also Bible sermons that declare the way for this poor soul to encounter Christ, and receive all the benefits of the salvation He has wrought for each and every one of us. Even offering the perfect Bible study can bring increase to the lives of your community.
Think back over your history as a disciple of Jesus. No matter how short or how long a time that has been, I bet you can name several Biblical sermons that made lasting, memorable impacts on your heart and the trajectory of your life. It is most likely through Bible sermons that you were awakened to the purposes of God for your life, to the goodness of God stored up for you in Christ. And it is also most likely in Bible sermons that you heard about your true identity as a son or daughter of God.
It is of the utmost importance to the people of God to celebrate the preaching of Bible scriptures and to give them first place in our attention. Let us study their words, and ponder their meaning and application. Let us consider how Bible sermons affect our thinking and are doing.
Now, again, think back and reflect on those Bible sermons which made a lasting impact on your life. We remember Bible sermons from Tom Stipe of Calvary Chapel preach, Billy Graham preach at a fantastic Evangelistic Crusade Event in San Diego, Ern Baxter preach, Bill Johnson preach, and on and on!
Another question is, is it possible to be saved without hearing Bible sermons? Oh yes, for sure, but is that God’s design? If you do a word search on the following words (preach, preached, preaching, preacher), you’ll be amazed at how important a role the preaching of Bible sermons plays in the New Testament. Here are some examples of its importance:
- Paul declared he had to preach, or he would suffer from woes! (1 Cor. 9:16)
- Both John and Jesus preached repentance from sins (Luke 3:3, Matt. 4:17)
- The disciples were sent out to preach the gospel, heal the sick, raise the dead, Etc. The preaching of the Gospel is a central activity in the ministry of the church (Matt. 10:7)
- Jesus in fact declared that it was his purpose, and the reason he came, to preach the gospel (Mark 1:38)
- Even though it’s not a named Ministry gift, Paul says he was called to be a preacher (1 Tim. 2:7, 2 Tim. 1:11)
- Paul said that on his ministry trips, it was his Central activity, day and night (1 Thess. 2:9)
- Paul rejoiced in the preaching of Christ (Philippians. 1:18)
It is important to attend to the preaching of the word of God, so let us engage ourselves with listening to Bible sermons on a regular basis. God bless the preaching of His Word!
