Bible scholar Chad Bird explores in the Bible if angels do sing.
Do Angels Sing?
Angels are mysterious creations of God. We don’t see them unless God will. But the Bible is full of verses that reveal the spiritual beings’ purpose and roles. One of which, is that they sing. Chad Bird compiled several verses to prove that angels do sing.
Job 38:7 says, “While the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” According to Chad, the common Hebrew poetry parallels morning stars with the sons of God. These sons of God are described as angels of God in the book of Job (Job 1:6, 2:1). “So here, the angels ‘sang together’ and ‘shouted for joy’ over God’s works of creation,” he explained.
Another verse that shows the angels singing is found in Isaiah 6:3. It says, “And they [seraphims] were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.'”
Chad shared, “The Hebrew verb used in Isaiah for ‘called’ is קרא (qara) is frequently used in the Psalms in parallel with verbs that mean to ‘sing’ or ‘make melody.’ For instance, Psalm 105:1-2, ‘Oh give thanks to the Lord; call [קרא] upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing [שׁיר] to him, sing praises [זמר] to him; tell of all his wondrous works!’”
Therefore, when the seraphim called to one another, they were singing to each other.
Heavenly Hosts
Lastly, when Jesus was born, Luke 2:13-14 described how “a multitude of heavenly hosts” were praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased.”
Chad pointed out that the Greek word “praise” in the above passage is used across the Greek translation of Psalms. It described the “worshipful praise and singing of the people to God.”
The Bible scholar concluded, “What a joy it will be, one day, when we hear humans and angels singing together in a choir of praise to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!”
