Becky Johnson shared a reminder for every Christian leader. She talked about the importance of radical obedience.

The executive pastor of Jesus Culture Sacramento, Becky Johnson, shared what she learned from the life of Moses. She mentioned a story in Numbers 20 where God instructed Moses to speak to the rock, and water would come out. During that time, the Israelites were in the middle of the wilderness and were thirsty. They were complaining, and Moses was under a lot of stress. Instead of speaking to the rock, he struck the rock with his staff. Water still came out despite Moses’ actions, but the Lord told him that he wouldn’t enter the promised land.
Then, she explained that the story taught her about the cost of disobedience. Initially, she thought that what God did to Moses was a severe punishment. It seemed like an insignificant moment cost him the promised land. Eventually, she realized, “Moses lost the promised land because he was disobedient.” For her, disobedience is a significant issue for a leader.

Radical Obedience
Furthermore, she mentioned that part of the development of Christian leaders was about learning radical obedience to the Lord. She applied what she learned from Moses. In Exodus 17, God instructed Moses to strike the rock so the water would come out. However, in Numbers 20, God asked him to speak to the rock. She highlighted, “There are things I can do that’ll get the result because I’ve done them before. Maybe it’s what God has asked of me previously. But just because I have success in the moment doesn’t mean it’s what I was meant for.”
Moreover, she shared that obeying God is more important than following the methods that worked in her previous season.
“I don’t want to lose his ultimate and best because I wasn’t obedient. And so that’s what He’s been challenging me on,” she remarked.
