“Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
2 But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.” (Psalm 1:1-3)
Prospering in all we do
The key to bearing fruit in our life is delighting in the word of God. You might be thinking, who has time to meditate on the word day and night? Meditating looks like intentional remembrance. Instead of ruminating on all the things we feel, problems or struggles we might have, we get to meditate on God’s laws. Beautifully, this is what bears us fruit, and allows our leaves to never wither.
Merriam-Webster defines meditation as “to focus one’s thoughts on; reflect on or ponder over”. Assess your day. How many of your thoughts reflect on circumstances and outcomes? How could you instead choose one promise of God from His word to hold in your mind? Maybe it’s keeping it on a note somewhere in your home, car, or workspace. Or maybe it’s making it the wallpaper of your phone.

Are you bearing fruit in this season?
The opening Psalm tells us that those who put their delight in the Lord bear fruit in each season. This means that even when our seasons change, the fruit of God’s spirit within us does not. Take a minute today and ask the Holy Spirit to make it clear what your season currently is. Then, ask Him what fruit you are meant to bear at this time. It may be patience, gentleness, or kindness. Maybe it’s self-control. Whatever you hear from the Lord, you can trust it!
I pray that you flourish in your current season, not putting pressure to be in any specific place but truly resting in God’s steadfast ever-present word.
