If there has ever been a time when the world seems to be tossed up-side-down it’s certainly now. Fear seems to be rising in people’s hearts. And that is dangerous because fear is a liar. The economy seems to be crumbling, flights canceled, and places put under lockdown. What’s more, public places have become a place of avoidance. In the news, the internet, work, and everywhere people are talking about the COVID-19 virus. Countries and states have raised the threat level of the virus to critical. At such a time when everyone seems to be worried about the pandemic, what are we supposed to do as Christians? Coronavirus was never mentioned in the Bible. Yet, the word of God is so clear on what we should do during such a seemingly distressing time.
Child Of God
It is very important this time to reflect on who we really are as children of God. What does it really mean to be a child of God? We get the answer in John 1:7 (AMP, emphasis added) which says: “Children (who) owe their birth neither to blood nor to the will of the flesh [that of physical impulse] nor to the will of man [that of a natural father], but to God. [They are born of God!].” I like what the Bible says here, we as children of God no longer owe anything to this physical world. We have been disassociated with anything that is of the flesh. And we now have everything to do with God.
In other words, we are a seed that is of God. Therefore, full partakers of the divine nature (see 1 Peter 2:4). Can God get sick? No! Does he get scared? Not at all! This is what it means to be a partaker of his divine nature. The same nature of God that is immune to sickness and defeat is the one working in us. This is what the world needs to see us walking in. If we are the ones at the forefront getting scared of the virus how will people know that our Savior stands above everything? And that His name was highly exalted above everything in this world (see Phil. 2:7)?
Have you observed that the more we hear about COVID-19 the more you fear it? This is exactly what the devil wants in this hour. That the virus becomes the talk of the town so that he can plant his seed of fear in peoples’ lives. Remember fear is a spirit not from God but straight from the gates of hell (see 2 Tim. 1:7).
Fear Is A Liar
Bill Johnson once said, when you believe a lie you empower the liar. Fear is a lie and when you choose to believe it you empower it to bring to you things in the direction of the fear. We see this in the Book of Job 3:25. What Job feared is exactly what happened to him. In other words, he empowered the author of fear, the devil, to bring to him what he feared. The same will happen if we allow the fear of COVID-19 into our lives.
The gates of hell will try to intensify. But one thing is sure, they will never prevail over the Church (see Matthew 16:19). Fear is a liar, but the Lord is King and truth. We are the Church, His own purchased, that has been empowered to fight and plunder the enemy. Shalom.
