The Syrian and Lebanon borders are quiet for the moment, but Hezbollah’s rockets can reach Tel Aviv and beyond, and Iran is preparing to attack Israel in the coming years, a former head of research in the IDF Intelligence Corps said Tuesday.
Maj. Gen. (res.) Amos Gilad, who also served as Coordinator of Government Affairs in the Territories and the director of the political-security branch in the Ministry of Defense, told Hebrew-language Radio 103 that the home front will sustain a prolonged attack in a future war on the northern border
“Whenever Iran attacks, which they are planning to do… the threat will be aimed at the (civilian) population. The IDF and the defense establishment must get prepared,” said Gilad.“We have to be prepared for all scenarios, from the most extreme to the least serious,” explained Gilad. “I don’t want to get into details, but the Cabinet (discussion) wasn’t about a time that the border is quiet, but about when things get bad. We have to plan everything; everyone has got to work like a well-oiled machine to minimize the harm to civilians. “
