A Christian social media page shares an eye-opening revelation about why God asked Abraham to offer his son, Isaac—it’s more than just a test of faith.
Abraham offered his son
Bible-reading Christians are all familiar with the story of Abraham and his son, Isaac. They read about Abraham obeying God and going up to Mount Sinai to offer his son a burnt sacrifice.
Pastors and preachers have used the story as a wonderful example of obedience to God in the midst of a test of faith. However, @saltoftheearth shares that Abraham’s story holds more depth than what is commonly understood.
So, why did God have Abraham offer Isaac?
@_saltoftheearth_ answers, “God uses this story to point to the coming of Jesus perfectly.”
Isaac was Abraham’s beloved son. And so was Jesus to the Almighty Father. Matthew 3:17 says, “And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
Both fathers had to sacrifice their beloved begotten sons.
It all leads to Jesus
Genesis 22:6 says, “Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac.” Meanwhile, Jesus also had to carry the wood of his cross to the sacrificial place.
But as we read in Genesis 22, Isaac was spared after Abraham faithfully obeyed God. As a result, he received God’s blessing and was called the Father of many nations.
The Christian content creator continued to explain.
“Jesus, the Son of God, however, was not spared in his pain, suffering, and death. God the Father loved his Son, yet gave him up so that we could spend eternity with him, by raising him up on the 3rd day. In God’s perfection, we cannot be in his presence without forgiveness of sins, which comes only through the grace of our Lord.”
“If it wasn’t for prophecies such as this, the idea of Jesus, the trinity, forgiveness of sins would sound ridiculous. The Old Testament perfectly points to Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.”
