Do you ever feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done? Feel like you’re the only one who’s good at fixing things? Do you feel pressured to be perfect? Is it hard for you to let someone else do things for you? These are all helpful questions to consider in the quest to lead a balanced life…
I was brought up with high expectations and I know that pressure all too well of feeling like you’ve got something to prove. We all know the scripture“In Christ I can do all things” but often we miss out the ‘In Christ’ bit and rely on our own strength.
Being strong for too long can lead to a breakdown so we need to find balance. Also many of us have hidden ‘drivers’ that stem from our past that we need to fix. Fixing things is the topic of episode 10 of Let’s Get Real where the panel discuss the difficulties of balancing work, family, children, stress, church, ministry and how to find God as our source of strength. In a nutshell we need to embrace the following steps:
Top 4 Tips to stay balanced
- If you say yes to something, know what you’re saying no to;
- Love yourself, don’t allow feelings of guilt to hold you back;
- Understand that you don’t have to fix everything; and
- Know when to start something (that’s the Lord has asked you to do) and when to stop it (it may just be for a season).
These four points can most effectively be achieved if we embrace Philippians 4:13: “”I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It’s only in God’s strength that we get things done, not our own. When you know it’s Him at work in you it takes the pressure off!

In this video Chris Larkin shares about a breakdown she experienced sharing how we need to draw on Christ’s strength rather than our own and to seek Him on whether to take on a certain mission or project. “We always need to hear God,” she says.
Sue Eldridge talks about how she found herself trying to live up to her father’s ability to get a lot done very well. “It was my own pressure, my own value system of what I’d seen my dad do”. But like Chris, this led to a breakdown, too much pressure to be perfect for too long!
So how do we as Christians strike that healthy balance?
“It’s learning how to say no,” says Chris Larkin “I’ve learnt now, the other side of it, God came, God healed me and restored me and set me free”, “What I know now is that whatever I say yes to, I’m saying no to something else”.
Getting professional Christian Counselling is something Alison Wilson recommends to help “deal with your drivers because you cannot change your behaviours if you don’t change the belief systems behind them.” We all make mistakes and it’s important to remember that God has grace for you.
Sacred Sexuality
Bobbi Kumari knows all about mistakes especially in the area of sexuality. Bobbie is a fashion designer / image consultant and the author of ‘Sacred Sexuality’ a book that “addresses God’s heart for sexuality and looks at the Biblical blueprint for how God wants us to navigate through sexuality and sex”. Bobbi wants to help you ‘rewire your desire’ as she talks candidly about subjects many in the Church are to afraid to broach. Find out more about her at Living In Light,
