The Covenant of Marriage
Marriage is a blessing given by God for two people to become one in body, soul, and spirit.
God’s design for marriage is exemplified by his creation of Adam and Eve, making a commitment to one another and collaborating to build godly, virtuous families.
But the enemy always wants to “steal, kill, and destroy” and sadly, many marriages succumbed to the testing and didn’t last.
“Once upon a time… marriage was forever,” pastor John Bevere wrote. “It was a covenant that knit one man and one woman together. This weaving made both stronger, nobler, and more vibrant expressions of who they were created to be. They were better together than either had been on their own.”
4 Scriptural Prayers for a Stronger Marriage
Furthermore, he said, “Today, marriage is under attack. Prayer is one of the greatest weapons needed to protect this covenant—and walk in the fullness of all it was meant to be.”
Here are 4 scriptural prayers for a stronger marriage:
1. Make us strong.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9, NIV).

2. Help us to lift one another up.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, NIV).
3. May our home be built on wisdom.
“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures” (Proverbs 24:3-4, NIV).
4. Help us live together in harmony and unity.
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:5-6, NIV).
Marriage is a gift from God to make our lives richer and more fulfilling. It implies that a good marriage can bring us closer to God as well as closer to our spouse.
So, when the enemy strikes, remember to fight for your marriage, and not against each other. For everything that comes from God is always worth fighting for.
