In today’s disposable society, where things are so easily trashed, it has become increasingly easy to have an abortion. In the UK you can now even take an abortion pill at home. This offers women the option to deal with “a long-term problem” in an instant – yet such a hasty decision can affect them negatively for a life time.
Are you considering having an abortion? Before you do read what God is saying to you and your unborn child.
- My child, you may not know Me, but I know everything about you. Psalm 139:1
- I knew you even before you were conceived. Jeremiah 1:4-5
- I chose you when I planned creation. Ephesians 1:11-12
- You were not a mistake, for all your days are written in My book. Psalm 139:15-16
- I determined the exact time of your birth and where you would live. Acts 17:26
- You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14
- I knit you together in your mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13
- And brought you forth on the day you were born. Psalm 71:6
- And it is My desire to lavish my love on you. 1 John 3: Simply because you are my child and I am your Father. 1 John 3:1
- My question is…Will you be my child? John 1:12-13
At the heart of the abortion debate is the question of when life begins and the sanctity of life. Of course these Scriptures present a Biblical world view which stipulates that a fetus becomes a living human being at conception. Christians believe that the minute an egg is fertilised it is considered the beginning of human life as the egg is morphing into a human being and contains the full genetic code for life.

Others believe that life begins only when the fetus becomes viable when it can survive outside the womb. Whichever view you have an abortion is still the killing of a living organism. No one can deny that it is the ending of a growing entity. In this case a human being.
Pro Choice activists say that a woman’s body is her own and she has the right to do with it what she will. Yes, she does but the unborn child also has a right to life. Making abortion easier and pushing the time limits on when its acceptable seems like genocide. At 24 weeks the baby is fully formed, there are people fighting to push that limit higher up to the day of birth. But does that make it right?
There are alternatives to abortion
As you consider all your options, may your heart be touched by the Scriptures you’ve read. Remember, there is another way – adoption. It’s sobering to think that just as much as many women are desperate to ‘get rid’ of their unwanted pregnancies, there are couples out there who cannot have children for one reason or another and they are even more desperate to adopt a child and give them a loving home.
Above all remember you were once knit together in your mother’s womb by an almighty heavenly Father who loves you and He loves your unborn baby too. Slow down, take a breath, and prayerfully consider your options.
